The Bhutan Construction and Transport Authority (BCTA), under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, has launched the Motor Vehicle Crash Data System (MVCDS), a centralized digital platform for collecting, storing, analyzing, and reporting motor vehicle crash data. The system replaces fragmented and manual record keeping with a standardized and reliable database to support improved enforcement, planning, and evidence based decision making.
The project was initiated in partnership with the Traffic Division of the Royal Bhutan Police, with funding support from JICA Bhutan, and will be officially implemented from 1 January 2026.
The MVCDS is a key step towards strengthening accountability, improving coordination among agencies and ultimately protecting the safety of all road users.
The Royal Government of Bhutan has received financial assistance in the form of Credit and Grant from the World Bank toward the cost of the Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia (ACCESS)-Bhutan Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for the Supply of Road Safety Enforcement Equipment for BCTA.
